Holidays can be hard to cope with, especially when you are in prison and far from family and the comforts of home. Prisoners in our classes report that mindfulness helps. Susan, our POF facilitator in RI, reports:
Tough day after Thanksgiving at women’s facility today. What worked was starting out with yoga and a good session of tense and relax meditation. Also acknowledging the unique charged emotions associated with the holidays helped. We discussed at the end of class the need to come to class next week focused and ready to help each other through the Christmas/New Year madness.
